Workflow hematology

- Cell counts using machine such as Sapphire (Abbott) or Sysmex.
- Algorithm to warn on special occasions.
- Flagging:
   - variant lymphocytes: for atypical lymphocytes (= reactive lymphocytes, reaction on infection ) --> long lymphocytes scatter
   - nucleated red blood cells: erythroblasts --> left below on scatter size vs. granularity, and right on viability)
   - blasts
   - immature granulocytes
- Making slides

In case of probable leukemia
Pancytopenia and blast in peripheral blood --> doctor informed to take bone marrow biopsy --> bone marrow biopsy morphology --> immunophenotyping --> diagnosis and classifcation
