Icons of medical microbiology and infection prevention

There were persons with or without they realized delivered substatntial contributions to medical microbiology and infection prevention world.

Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (1623 - 1732)
Perhaps he was the first microbiologist. He invented the microscope. This Dutch guy lived really long.

Ignasz Semmelweis (1818 - 1865)
Considered as a person who introduce the practice of antiseptic.

John Snow (1813 - 1858) and Rev. Henry Whitehead
Snow is the founding father of the science call Epidemiology. He elucidated how cholera was transmitted, with the help of Rev. Whitehead.

Alexander Flemming (1881 - 1955) and Howard Florey (with team, 1998- 1968)
Serendipity and team work are the great combination. Without penicillin, there will be never an ID specialist or medical microbiologist.

Robert Koch (1843 -1910)
Founder of modern microbiology, together with Pasteur. Without him, I would choose another job.

Louis Pasteur (1822 - 1895)
One among the first modern microbiologists. Someone who really discovered 'a cause' of disease. He is also the one who invented the principle of vaccination. Pasteur was also a chemist. Is that may be because of him, that clinical biology training also consists of clinical chemistry??

Joseph Lister (1827 - 1912)
Founder of aseptic surgery. Sorry for all OK intern. You need indeed perform surgical hand hygiene!
